Drive Different Vehicles On Your Licence

What can you drive?
In the UK there are a lot of different types of driving licences, each with a different code and each allows you to operate a different size, shape and type of vehicle. If you passed your test in an Automatic, can you drive a manual transmission? If you drive a car, can you pull a horsebox? If you drive a motorbike, can you also drive a van?

Your licence is for life, unless you do something illegal and you lose your licence, or unless your health changes so you become medically unable to drive. It is best to know what you can and what you can not do with your driving licence today.

Turn your Driving License over.
Can you see all the codes and categories there? They are an indication of what you are allowed to drive and what conditions you must meet to be able to drive them. These will change if you fail eye tests, have medical conditions or your health deteriorates such that it affects your driving. These will also change if you pass tests to allow you to drive other vehicles

If you have passed your standard driving test, you are able to drive some 2 or 3 wheeled vehicles, some vehicles with trailers and some minibuses. The weight of the trailer is a factor in whether or not you are allowed to drive the vehicle pulling it.

You can also drive a tractor and a commercial mowing machine. But not on motorways!

If you want to drive a motorbike there are several different categories to consider, depending on the size of the motorbike. Bigger bikes need more training and more supervision, start small and build up.

Additional tests are required for some vehicles, so if a mate asks you to just drive his lorry for a day, you need to be aware that you could lose your license if you have not passed the test.

Vehicles like Lorries, Trucks, Trailers and Minibuses require further tests to be passed, and checks to be made before you get behind the wheel. The act of driving might be similar, and you might feel like you can do it, but without passing the proper test for it, you could lose all driving privileges.

Don’t Lose Your License
If you treat it right, your licence is for life. If you mistreat it, break the rules, or fall foul of the law, you risk losing your license and might have to take your tests again.

If you have simply misplaced your license and need a replacement, just fill in the forms, send the payment, and get a new license in the post!

Why do we need to know what license you have?
Your driving license is evidence that you know how to drive and what you are allowed to operate, it is a form of identification that can be traced back to you, and linked to your personal data. It is your footprint on the vehicular world, and a gateway to buying the car of your dreams.

On our application form you will be asked about your driving licence and our sales team could ask you about your driving experience and about the car that you want, so we can help you to drive your perfect car today.
